Rhizod's Linux mobile phones page
This personal page of Rhizod gives some tips and tricks for customizing Motorola's excellent line of Linux-based mobile phones, the E680, E680i, and A780. These phones are truly amazing! User friendly UI, mp3, video and web capable, multi-tasking (you can surf the web via gprs and listen to music at the same time). Music via stereo bluetooth headset.
Most importantly this series of phones are easily customized since they are based on a complete Linux system (with /proc and everything!). The kernel source code is available! There is a large, but mostly Asian, mod community. The phones are sadly hard to come by outside Asia, so if you live in Europe or US you probably have to import them yourself through ebay or similar. A great place to find out more is the MotorolaFans forum page.
On this page I provide cool software packaged with my own package system 'Rhizod's Neo-installer'. So check back from time to time. (And if you like the stuff; contribute with the PayPal field to the right :-)

Rhizod's Neo-installer package system for E680i/E680/A780

This is a user-friendly package system for native applications on
E680i, E680 and A780.
Neo = Natively Executable Object. Native applications are distributed
in .jar archives, and the phones normal jar-install/uninstall functionality
can be used to add and remove them. To install the Neo-installer you first
need to have 'linloader' working. The downloadable archive includes a
'Readme.txt' with installation instructions. Current Rev: C
(minor clarification in readme: no need to upgrade from Rev B).
Download.
New experimental revision: D_exp. You are no longer restricted to only one simultaneously running Neo program. Download.
Here is an archive for people who wish to make their own Neo-packages: Download.

VisualBoy Advance: Gameboy GBC and GBA emulator for E680i/E680(/A780)

This emulator isn't my work---credit goes to icq8 at the ccmove forums (Please email and correct me if I am wrong). It is a precompiled VisualBoy Advance Emulator for E680i. My contribution is just to re-package it into a Neo package. The package currectly carries the version known as 'Turbo 0801c e680i'. NOTE: There are NO 'ROMS' in this package --- Just a precompiled version of the VBA software. I'm currently investigating some positive reports regarding whether this binary also works nice for A780. Download.

Qonsole: Terminal program for E680i/E680/A780 : DOWNLOAD DISABLED DUE TO LICENSING ISSUES

Note: A copyright holder of the program konsole has written to me and informed me that Qonsole is a derivate work in violation of the konsole license. Hence, I have stopped all distribution of the binary, and ask for everyone else to do the same.
Furthermore, the copyright holder informs me: "As i do not want to cause harm, i hereby grant, only for your readers, who
downloaded the illegally distributed binary derivates of the konsole before
July 11, 2006, a non-transferable license to run these binaries until August
11, 2006. This temporary license will not extended. Then, the binary has either
to be replaced by another release under a proper license (if the issue has
been successfully settled) or deleted."
(Below follows the original description of the package)
This is another native application I have repackaged as a Neo package---credit for the app goes to mcbee at the ccmove forums (Please email and correct me if I am wrong). I downloaded it as a binary from the download section at the mfc formus. Warning: first run takes 1-2 minutes before anything happens due to lengthy post-installation. (Rev B: previous rev did not work, sorry).

Clocker: Screensaver for E680i/E680/A780

Another Neo packaged native application; credits for the app goes to JoeJoe at the ccmove formus. If you leave your phone unused for a while it will start a slideshow and show a clock. I just downloaded the mpkg package and re-packaged it as a Neo package. Download.

Mirror of cyph's ezx-opie package

Cyph's package for making the opie environment run alongside the phones native environment turned out to be quite popular. I just mirror a copy here to help with the bandwith issues of the original links. It is not a Neo package (but one day I think I will repackage it...) Download.
